first day at university
looking around the class, i gaze into the faces of the local population. the flora and fauna - the beasts and the vegetation. the trout with the sunken face. a dog with hanging chops. a porker who looks like a baby who's had a hose stuck up its ass and been inflated like an exploded uncooked sausage. a girl with huge, red, frizzy hair like an imposing clown. a scruffy lion with a chestnut mane and claws to match. geeky chinchillas twitching and hiding behind fringes of split ends. a gaggle of geese quacking incessantly into their digital talismans. middle class house cats stroking themselves and playing with their hair. a whole row of friendly waddling penguins wearing an array of obsidian niqābs like black bowling pins. pale equine faces, long with boredom. a beady-eyed little stoat fidgeting with his stationery. a straight up potato - boiled. a pig with a bubbling blow-torch face. an attempt at a bird of paradise, a few peacock impressions. a few rats. there are always a few rats. there are rats everywhere. I think i may be a rat.
