heat death (for Robert Frost)

we are living in the most unlikely of universes,
where silver and gold are forged in supernovae,
and DNA has evolved to fight over this glittery mess.

the laws of thermodynamics are heartbreakingly sad.
the universe cannot sustain itself.
we are in the throes of a giant drift,

inexorably falling away from the light,
and into the abyss,
in a high entropy fade out.
